It is indeed an appreciation to be invited to attend a wedding as a guest. However there are elements which need to be dealt with, to ensure that you are aware of any problems which may prevent you from being the ideal guest, for your own self-image, comfort and to respect the couple who are getting married.
As a wedding guest it is your responsibility to get to the wedding via your own transportation and to arrive on time.
This can pose problems when the situations are not always ideal.
If you have your own transportation then there is no problem, it is simply a matter of determining the route. If you are going as a guest with somebody who has their own transportation then once again you will have a comfortable ride. However there are situations when it is not always easy; you may be going by yourself and have no transportation of your own, you may be an out-of-town guest, you may be on a tight budget etc. |

Consider your options to determine which would be right for you and consider that you just might have to include transportation into your budget along with the wedding gift and apparel. |
POSSIBILITIES & SUGGESTIONS |
LOCATION
If the wedding is a great distance from where you live or you are a visitor, it is an option to consider accommodation which is very close to the wedding venue so that your travel will be minimal. Local people could stay with friends or family who live close by, travelers could have the wedding in mind when choosing their hotel, guest house or other.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Thid is a method but might not be suitable considering that you are going to a wedding. You will undoubtedly be dressed finely and you will find hustling and bustling on buses etc very fatiguing. As a result you may not arrive in the freshest of moods which will put a damper on the day. However if the distance is not too great and you are not traveling in peak times, you might be able to consider it to at least get to the wedding, where you will be able to possibly pick up a ride to the reception.
CAR POOL
Enquire from anyone else who knows the couple if they too are going to the wedding and if there is any possibility of your riding with them. This will ensure that you are with a group of people who all have the same destination and goal for the day, to be a part of this wedding. However if you are an out-of-town traveler and are not familiar with many local guests this will be difficult for you.
TAXI
Probably the best option … The taxi operator knows where to go and the ride is comfortable and appropriate. An excellent choice for people who are visiting or do not know the area and do not drive themselves. The disadvantage is that you will have to do some forward planning, allocate this into your budget and ensure that the taxi is from a reliable source, which is known for arriving on time.
CAR RENTAL
If you are a driver this is a suitable alternative which has one major component … Independence. You will be free to make your own itinerary according to the time of the wedding, move onto the reception (if applicable) and leave when it is comfortable for you. This will require a budget but remember that you can pack a lot into the rental period.
TALK TO THE COUPLE
If transportation is a real issue and you honestlyy can’t see your way through, let the couple know as soon as possible that you will not be attending. While the responsibility is yours, the couple may help if they can. Sometimes private buses or cars are chartered for guests if they can get to a particular pick-up point. Also in an attempt to minimize lost family and friends, the groomsmen, ushers or other attendant often see to it that once you can reach the wedding, they will try to find transportation for those who do not have a ride to the reception.
