Managing stress Physically

As a groom with your own challenges, your general health, well-being, lifestyle and body condition all factor into your ability to withstand stress.  A healthy groom is better able to resist illness and other aggressions which may otherwise spoil his enjoyment of what should be a very special time.  By incorporating a few lifestyle adjustments you can be in a position where you are more in control of your physical well-being.

This does not mean that you have to disrupt your life, on the contrary you will find that these additions will actually enhance your physical health, strengthening your system and making you less susceptible to emotional as well as physical fatigue and breakdown. Remember that these tips are not meant to treat or diagnose any serious illness. If you are feeling ill, please do not hesitate to contact your doctor or health care practitioner, so that you can be at your best.
GENERAL STRESS RELIEF TACTICS

FOOD
Maintain a healthy, balanced nutritious diet rich in fruit, vegetables, fish oatmeal etc.  We are not talking about dieting here, while you want to look your best, the goal is not to drastically lose weight but to be a healthy size with optimum nutritional support, which will provide you with enough energy to effectively carry out your tasks.
Reduce your intake of refined foods which can leave you sluggish.  Reduce your sugar, salt intake; control your use of stimulants like coffee and alcohol to a manageable level as these are dehydrating and can disturb your sleep pattern which is no help but yet actually disguises one of the causes of stress.

SLEEP
It is very difficult to perform as you would like in your various tasks if you are tired.  Forcing the issue can be very stressful and is easily prevented.  Ensure that you get adequate sleep especially during this time when demands on you are higher.  Relaxation doesn’t even always necessarily mean that you have to sleep all the time; read a book, listen to music or enjoy a massage or aromatherapy to relax your inner being.  Meditation and Yoga are also great techniques to refresh the mind.

SMOKING
Naturally it is best to stop but if that is difficult for you, try to at least limit your smoking as it can affect the ability of the coronary arteries to respond to anxiety.

EXERCISE
Exercise has a dual role in that it not only enables you to look good it is also a great way to ease stress.  Exercise doesn’t have to be vigorous and repetitive to be effective, activities as simple as taking the stairs instead of the lift or a brisk walk will get your adrenaline going and your heart pumping healthily.  It is without doubt, one of the best ways to manage stress, providing vital oxygen to the body and you’ll look great in your wedding suit or other selected attire.

ORGANISATION

Keep a list of all the wedding activities and plans which you have to complete.  Keeping things well organised is less stressful and gives you a sense of achievement.  Take advantage of checklists and other organisational helpers. Do not be afraid to enlist the help of your wedding party for some of the tasks which need to be seen to, they do have duties beyond looking good on the wedding day and are there to assist you in whatever way they can.

TAKE TIME OUT
You need to laugh, have fun and remember who you are as a couple apart from the wedding. Surprise each other with occasional, simple but effective gifts which are cost effective so as not to affect your budget but nice enough to keep spirits high. It could be something as easy and welcome as a bottle of massage oil. If the stress is really getting to you have an evening out periodically, designated as a wedding free night where there will be no wedding talk for the entire evening.  You will be surprised how you will be able to come back to your preparations with a new outlook and fresh ideas in addition to having spent some quality time together.
