ABOUT THE FIRE OPAL
Admired as a symbol of burning love, glowing like the fire of the sun.  An almost luminous combination of yellows, reds and orange tones so hot that even smaller pieces play a major role in jewellery.  Unlike the familiar Opal, the Fire Opal is not presented smooth but rather faceted or cut to enhance its composition and features.  The Fire Opal actually originated from fire, through prehistoric volcanic activity in Mexico.

  • Water trickles into lava which is rich in silica
  • The seams and indentations are filled with the substance
  • A hard gel forms due to the intense heat and pressure
  • The remaining water is caught within the formation
  • Fire Opal nuggets are found implanted in the lava flow

Fire Opal in principally mined in Mexican states but there has also been activity in the USA, Australia, Ethiopia and other countries.
