BRIDAL BOUQUET
The bridal bouquet should set the character for the rest of the wedding flowers and floral decorations and theme of the wedding.

The more popular wedding bouquet flowers are:

  • Roses,
  • Orchids,
  • Carnations,
  • Lilies
but there are large selections of various other flowers, including exciting and vibrant tropical flowers which are native to Barbados.

When considering your bouquet, think about colour, shape, size, and style. The bouquet should harmonize with your dress, wedding theme, and personality.
White flowers in a variety of different designs and shades are typical of a traditional, formal bouquet so that it does not draw attention away from the bride and her wedding gown.

Your bridal bouquet should enhance the beauty of your gown, but not overshadow it. A beautifully decorated gown should not be hidden by an oversized bouquet so think about your gown and your size before making selections.

Carrying flowers by the bride has its roots in ancient times; herbs and spices were used to keep away evil spirits during the wedding celebration.

BRIDAL PARTY FLOWERS

Groom – the boutonniere should be different in style, colour or type of flower from the other groomsmen.  Usually, the groom wears the same kind of flower that is in the bridal bouquet as a boutonniere

Best Man – the boutonniere should be slightly more elaborate than the rest of the groomsmen boutonnieres.

Maid/Matron of Honour – the bouquet slightly more elaborate and/or in a different colour/shade than the rest of the Bridesmaids’ wedding bouquets.

Bridesmaids – the bouquet less elaborate and/or in a different colour/shade than the Maid/Matron of Honour.

Groomsmen – the boutonniere should be less elaborate than the Best Man’s.

Flower girl – florets or basket of flower petals, in maching or complimentary colour or colours.

The Fathers, and Grandfathers – the boutonnieres should be less elaborate than the Best Man’s.

The Mothers and Grandmothers – corsages can be worn in many different ways.  They can be worn around the wrist, or pinned to the dress.  You should check with the persons which style they prefer as well as the colour of their outfit in order to choose flowers that compliment their outfit.

DECORATING THE VENUES

CHURCH DECORATIONS
The traditional look should include a beautiful altar arrangement, an arrangement for the signing table, abundance of flowers for the entrance, small arrangements at the side of each pew, decorations down the aisle, vinery and flowers on the columns, window ledges if possible, etc. Hundreds of beautiful blooms are available to create that romantic elegance for your dream wedding.
You should confirm with the minister or other officiant if and where flowers are permitted in the ceremony venue.

WEDDING RECEPTION
A reception venue that is filled with flowers is magical.  Floral arrangements can be placed at the entrance, cake table, guest book table, a bouquet to toss, flowers for centrepieces, a special arrangement for the head table, the buffet table or seating-card table and any other floral adornments.

WEDDING CAKE
A great idea which can make your wedding cake different is to add floral decorations.  Flowers can add personalization, a touch of elegance and colour to your cake.  If you choose to decorate your cake with flowers, you should stay with your wedding colours, but you can vary the shades.  Along with your florist decide which type of flower you would like on your cake. You can decide to duplicate the flowers in your bridal bouquet but alternately, you may choose other flowers that you may love and were unable to include in your bouquet.
Flowers that work well on cakes include daisies, dahlias, orchids, roses, gardenias and hydrangea.
Another option is to use edible, crystallized flowers which are non-perishable blooms.  They are actual flowers that have been treated to make them stiff and have a fine dusting of sparkle. They are exquisite, won’t wilt, turn brown, or need to be kept in water beforehand.
Once you’ve narrowed down your flower choices, consider the design you want for your cake - what style of cake (simple or sophisticated), flowers on every tier or only on the bottom layer or simply topping the cake. Do you want whole flowers, flower petals, or both?
Remember; ensure that all real flowers used on your cake are free of any harmful treatments.
You should, consider extra flowers to use on your cake knife, goblets, or serving plates for a classy look and a different appearance.
