Tell me about your business?
Asking your videographer to talk about the company gives you an opportunity to see how passionate they are about what they do and who they are. If a person loves their work they are more likely to take a personal pride in the finished product of your recording.
Can I view samples?
This is a standard understanding and your videographer will in fact be quite proud to show his or her talent.
Who will be videotaping my wedding?
This is an important issue as many companies use outside sources and you may not have confidence in that particular person. You can always ask to see samples of their work if you really like the company who you have approached and feel it is at least worth further investigation.
Will there be one or more videographers?
Depending on the size and type of your wedding it may be necessary to use more than one videograher. Some companies may even use two as standard as a back-up for equipment failure. You will need to establish this beforehand as it will affect the price, however, be careful not to sacrifice quality for a little extra price as once the moment is gone it cannot be recaptured.
What about audio?
Audio placement and equipment is as important as the visuals as it is important to capture key words and memorable wishes which you can enjoy for a lifetime. Decide whether you would wish your speakers to wear a microphone or hold a microphone, your videographer will be the best person to advise you.
What about lighting?
Depending on the time and location of your wedding the videographer may decide whether to use light on his camera or not. This means that it is essential that you discuss with him or her beforehand, the details of your wedding, so that suitable arrangements can be made for you. You may need accent lighting for particular moments like the placing of the rings, the signing of the registry etc. for the rest suitable ambient lighting may be satisfactory in addition to a regular flash for indoor settings.
What Camera do you use?
The type of camera the videographer will use may greatly affect the price of the finished product. Naturally the more up-to-date and sophisticated it is the more the finished product will be worth but also remember that the quality will also be better and sharper due to the higher resolution.
What formats do you provide?
Standard VHS/NTSC video is a norm but it would also be worth investigating, if your videographer provides the finished product on DVD, which is a much more durable format and much better quality. In the case of multiple copies it would be convenient to be able to cater to everyone’s home format.
Are special effects available?
You may want to add flair and imagination to your recording by including some of the many effects available to create various visual delights. Ask what is available and how much it will affect the overall price of the finished product.
Can I include anything else into the recording?
You may want to be adventurous and add more depth into your recording by maybe adding an intro or a footnote when you come back from honeymoon. Storyboarding is fun and memorable; discuss with your videographer the possibilities.
What can I expect of you?
It is important that there is an understanding between you as to exactly when the videographer will be required for various events. For some couples the videography can start as early as the engagement party, the rehearsal dinner etc.
What about Contract and pricing?
Once you have explained to the videographer exactly what your needs are, he or she will then be in a better position to give you a quotation based on those requirements. Make sure you view the contract and fully understand everything it entails before you commit. By doing this you ensure that everyone is on the same page without any unforeseen surprises. Make sure you fully understand the payment procedures and exactly what you are getting for the price.
Be very mindful of your wedding videography, as these are once in a lifetime moments. Unlike photography you cannot dress up again and recapture a video of an occasion which has already passed. Consider it “The Gift of Memories Forever”.
