Wearing Short Hair
If your hair falls between the middle of your neck, jaw line and upwards, in a bob, other definite cut or closely cropped to your head, it is considered short hair and would need to be styled and handled accordingly for maximum effect.

Even though your hair is short there is still a lot that can be done and you can even have extra fun and more options with accessories because of the low length.
WAVES, CURLS & OTHER TEXTURES
Regardless of how short your hair is, unless it is practically shaved, you should be able to still put some texture, curl into it or finger wave for a classy vintage sophistication.  Smooth, slicked hairstyles look very dramatic and elegant on short hair especially if it is long enough for a slight side sweep.

Alternatively you can place curls to the front or the back of the head accordingly, depending on the rest of your outfit and the overall look which you are trying to create. If curling your hair yourself, allow the curls to cool and lightly comb in place; brushing will create a frizzy effect which will not give you the polished look you desire.

Play with your cut to create volume and texture, fringes/bangs are a clever illusion on length by adding a longer hair element to your face which compliments the forehead, even thought the rest of your style is short to the back.

Mix the textures, great hairstyles can be achieved on short hair by combining slick styles with curl.  Slick the front and curl the back or curl the crown to add fullness and slick the back and sides; experiment to see which best would suit your face shape and wedding outfit.

The spiky look can be very attractive and fun for the trendy style bride, for a more casual wedding, if it is handled correctly.  You can infuse your contemporary outlook by embracing this approach but aiming more for a sophisticated texture as opposed to punk drama.  Keep your make up soft and flattering with the spiky look; infuse a little colour on the hair tips for movement and extra texture.

ACCESSORIES
Having short hair affords you the opportunity to go a little bolder with your jewellery, due to your ears and neck being beautifully exposed like a canvas waiting to be painted. You also are able to display exciting back details to your gown. Women with long hair would have to put their hair up to have the same opportunity to achieve the same effect.  You can wear bigger, bolder earrings and necklace styles; even have fun with ethnic considerations if your style of wedding affords it.

Experiment with bolder make-up especially if your wedding is in the evening, you can hold this look but keep it tasteful.

Flowers work beautifully in short hair adding a romantic, angelic touch.  They can be worn singular with or without a veil or wreath style without a veil.

If opting for a glittery tiara, consider styles which sit vertically on the head or “Alice” band styles which are very flattering on short hair.  Try out a few options first to see how the various effects suit you personally.

TALKING TO A STYLIST

USING COLOUR
Great thickness and movement can be achieved with colour and slight variations and graduations in some sections of your overall cut.

Consider blocks of tonal shades or wispy additions of highlights or lowlights to flatter your skin colour, in addition to complementary styling, which would be best carried out by a professional.

A professional will be able to advise you as to all your options for bridal short hair. The basis begins with a proper cut for shape and definition to your style.

If you want to embrace your length and be yourself, converse with your stylist for advice as to all your options for short hair, you can also browse through magazines to see the latest techniques and options to enhance your look. Consider brow enhancing sweeps, with longer lengths to the front and remember that bangs/fringes do not have to be solid and/or straight to look good.

Alternatively, if you decide you would like to try something different just for that day and add a little length to your style strictly for the occasion, a professional is the best one to perform a proper hair extension service in a manner which is pleasing, without damage to your natural hair and/or scalp. Or if time allows, you can consider growing it a little, for more options.

You are by no means restricted in your choice of veil because your hair is short; you can choose whatever you like.  The length and volume of your veil would be more likely dictated by the style of your wedding and the design and length of your dress in addition to your headpiece, so that they all flow, balance and coordinate.

Having short hair is a personal statement  and very beautiful in  its own way, which has to handled differently than your fellow brides with long tresses, but it can still look fabulous soft and very feminine for your special day.
