UNDERSTANDING THE MAKE-UP STYLE
Bridal Sari Style
Considering make-up for wearing a bridal sari is very different to your normal application, while both equally beautiful, the direction is dissimilar.
As with all make-up you must first consider your personality, facial features, outfit and how much confidence you have to carry off your desired look as this style can range from mild to very intensive.
While wedding make-up in general is usually stronger to accommodate for lights and photos, a sari inspired wedding takes it to another level where the bride has very dramatic eyes but contrary to the usual “play down’ rules, the cheeks and lips are also in the spotlight. Here you would consider infusing a smokey eye look, khol on the inner rim of the eye, the use of eyeliner, the eye crease area being more defined and a stronger shade of lipstick then you would normally wear, making sure that it all compliments your skin and hair.
Regular Approach

THE COLOUR PALLETTE
This style of make-up uses a wide selection of shades to achieve the look, ranging from warm earth tones to rich jewel colours. While it is stronger in hue than normal wedding make-up, it remains true to the intended look and achieves a very special and bridal look, which is very beautiful.
The wonderful thing about this colour palette is that even though it is vibrant it does not mean that it is restrictive; on the contrary it is complimentary to all skin tones because of the earthy undertones. Fair skinned brides are very flattered by peaches and pinks, combine this with a smokey approach in combination with lips which match your cheek tint and you have the perfect sari look. Dusky brides can experiment from a myriad of possibilities.
Remember that this outfit affords you the ability to be more dramatic than usual, whatever your complexion and still look lovely whilst being true to the style. Experiment with dark, sultry eye hues highlighted with gold or enjoy colour to your advantage.
THE PERFECT SMOKEY EYE
"Smokey eye" is the smouldering, exotic, fabulous technique which makes every woman look amazing. It can change a simple girl next door to a dramatic goddess. Infusing accents of this sophisticated approach can be an important asset to your bridal sari makeup, so it is essential that it is done well. The key to creating the perfect smokey eye is in the blending, from dark to lighter shade. Any eye shape can enjoy this style. If you need help, consult a professional for perfect results.
Prepare the eyelid: Apply a base/primer to keep the eyelids oil free and add more staying power for the eye shadow.
Apply eyeliner: Try to get as close to the lash line as possible. Remember that the colour does not have to be black to be effective, midnight blues, plums etc are equally as stunning and kinder to light toned skins. If you have small eyes refrain from lining all the way along, which tends to make your eyes appear even smaller. Line only from the middle of the lower eye to the outer corner or use a lighter colour than the upper. If you have big eyes you can enjoy a full rimmed look.
Blend: Lightly smudge the eyeliner so that the line appears softer, creating a smokey look. You can apply a light linear application of eye shadow to the lower eye to help facilitate the style.
Apply base colour: This is the bottom colour which should be the lighter shade. Apply it over the entire lid to brow bone, ensuring that it blends well with the eyeliner. You can use two base colours if you desire.
Apply dark colour: This tone creates the smokey effect. You now apply the darker colour ensuring that it does not go above the eye crease blending into the eyeliner and smudging beautifully into the base colour but keeping below the eye crease.
Finish: Apply a light coating of a neutral tone with a large brush, not to add colour but to facilitate blending, encircling the eye and softening the look for the perfect smouldering effect.

ADORNING THE FOREHEAD

The “Bindi” is a forehead decoration, traditionally worn in parts of India and Asia, in the centre of the forehead, above or between the brows. The area between the eyebrows is known as the sixth “Chokra” and the heart of concealed wisdom. Originally consisting or red powder, it was worn by married women. Today it can be a highly decorative piece and is worn by women and girls in general for ornamental beauty. Wearing a Bindi can be a very complimentary addition to your bridal sari look. You are also not restricted to using powder, now available in many forms and shapes, with stick on varieties of stones and beads; you can effectively choose comfortably to enhance your outfit or just express yourself.
Choosing a Bindi:
Certain attributes have to be taken into account when choosing a Bindi. Of course it is very complimentary to match it to your dress but personal characteristics should also be considered for maximum results.
Enhance a dark skin tone with a bright or glittery style
Contrast a light skin tone with rich, dark shades
Broaden a narrow forehead with smaller outward dots
Narrow a broad forehead with smaller dots which surround
Lengthen a small forehead with an oblong shape
Balance a broad forehead with a round style
Balance a heart shape face with a triangle/pyramid style design
If you have a low forehead you can create the illusion of height by placing the Bindi directly between the brows
KEEPING IT SIMPLE
It is essential that you remain true to the make-up method if you want to really substantiate this approach. However, if you find that the look is too strong for you but would still like to enjoy sari style, consider using the gentler tones of the palette and pay more attention to jewellery and other accessories to authenticate the style.
TIPS
With this style, your jewellery can play a large part in inspiring your make-up
While the make-up finish is dramatic, keep the application light
For a very authentic look consider using kajal/khol instead of regular eyeliner
For a very striking appearance consider false eyelashes
While the approach calls for strong hues, embrace the style whilst keeping true to your skin tone, avoid very deep lipsticks on fair complexions as it can look harsh in photos
Ensuring your lip liner blends well with your lipstick is very important to succesfully complete this look
