Whisper Intimate

Your Bridal Lingerie

Your bridal lingerie, although not openly seen, is just as important as your wedding gown. It is the backbone for your dress and its appearance determines whether your outfit is a success or a disappointment.

A well-fitting collection of undergarments provides form and shape for your attire, flattering your figure to enhance your assets or mask your flaws if necessary.  Good lingerie is timeless, versatile and effective, providing seamless elegance for a sheath gown or a neat waist for a strapless or bustier style plus more options.

Examine your gown in consideration with your figure to determine your individual needs for wedding lingerie, in addition to selecting pieces for your honeymoon in general and wedding night to make your package complete.

COLOUR CONSIDERATIONS
Customary colours in bridal lingerie usually bordered on the pale side, coming in variations of white, cream, or champagne tones.  The balance there being that you should match your bridal dress.  However this does not always necessarily work.

People of rich skin colouring may find that wearing white underwear with a white dress may cause the underwear to show through where it ends and your skin carries on, if your skin tone is very deep.  Consider this when shopping, in addition to how transparent the materiel of your gown is and the variations of natural and artificial light in which you will have to be throughout the occasion.

Many destination style gowns are very fine in texture to accommodate warmer climates.  If you like your undergarments to be pale, often a light camel or taupe does the trick on most skin tones.  You can consider a slip if your dress is very fine.  If wearing hose or stockings, ensure that the colour flows with the outfit.

Another fact to be taken into consideration is that now, not all wedding dresses are white; today’s modern bride is not shy with colour and uses it to her advantage to enhance her theme or personalise herself.  The best thing is to try on your lingerie with your bridal gown to test how it connects with the colour you have chosen for foundation wear. sometimes the most conventional of approaches may surprise you.
SUITABILITY FOR STYLE

Sheath Style
Is a very slinky, figure hugging fashion which needs to look smooth without any visible panty or other lines.  Seamless fit, Lycra style body suits with flat edging, work well under this silhouette style.  The key here is to select undergarments with as few seams as possible to complete your look.

Strapless gowns
A good supportive form flattering bra is suitable here with a slight push up and underwiring for shape.  This would also be suitable for gowns with fine straps.

Ballroom Style
Many ballroom styles usually have bustier design bodices which are quite supportive in themselves but you can opt for a light weight bra with formed cups, to give you that extra shape and beauty.
The fairytale, ballroom type skirts have no need for style considerations so any kind of panty or stockings can be worn.  Your issues here would be bathroom access, making stay-up stockings or knee highs more convenient than fighting with tights under a full skirt.

Plunging necklines
For those who do not wish to go bra-less, consider adhesive type bras. Today’s style of adhesive bra is very supportive and can be suitable for even fuller figured women.

Plunging backlines
You will still require good bust support with a very low backline.  A good choice would be to select a boned style with a low back which hooks at the waist.  This will flatter your back and also give you bustline shape at the same time.

A-Line Style
A streamlined look very similar to the sheath but with a fuller skirt.  A slimming, smooth body suit is very suitable here and remember that they are available in strapless as well as regular design.  Removable straps are great, enabling you to be versatile with crisscross and halter styles.

FITTING
Above all ensure that whatever you select is comfortable and make certain to purchase the correct size for flawless fit.
  1. Make sure that your bra is adequately supportive, particularly if you are fuller figured and that it sits well under the type of dress you will be wearing
  2. If you have weight issues or a few flaws you would rather mask for your special day, you can consider a Lycra body slimmer; a seamless style corset which ensures you look good under the slimmest looking styles.  Be mindful that it is not too tight, thinking that a smaller size may make you look slimmer, it won’t and you will be very uncomfortable, in addition to actually creating extra bulges because it is too small.  A correct fit will keep you at ease throughout the day.  Be sure to try it under your dress to make sure you are satisfied with the results.
  3. Be careful of underwiring which can sit uncomfortably if the bra is not the correct fit. Do not be afraid to ask the assistant for help to ensure you have the right size for your needs.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Some brides choose to go without hose, particularly in a hot climate like Barbados, but if you do decide to wear them make sure that you have extras in case of accidents.  If you are wearing a long gown you can consider knee highs or stay-up stockings, which are both cool and versatile because they are easily removed as your wedding proceedings progress and circumstances change.

Try on your lingerie with your outfit before purchase to ensure it is everything you are looking for.  Move around in your selections when trying, to make sure that it doesn’t shift or is seen in any undesirable area of your gown, as the slightest peep of a bra edge can ruin the entire line of your look and redirect the focus from your beauty.

Be careful of garter belts, while very alluring they can snap during a vigorous or unusual activity like squatting (a popular position for displaying a full skirt for a bridal photo) or dancing at the reception.   It can show lines through a sheath or other slimline style dress.  Consider it if your gown is full and you plan to conduct your celebrations in a calm manner.
