Co-ordinating Your Look

Your choice of hairstyle, neckline and general bridal selection can say a completely different image even though you are the same person.

A high neckline with an updo hairstyle can create an image of sophisticated elegance, whereas an off-shoulder with down, flowing hair evokes a soft, romantic look … both different but equally beautiful.

The question is what do you want to say? And how much can you say due to your ceremony type?

For your look in general, a streamlined finish is very important to keep the presentation true to the personality of the bride and its appropriateness for the wedding ceremony. The answer lies in your own characteristics and the simplicity or formality of your wedding … You may be romantic, edgy, contemporary, elegant or other .  Plan accordingly within the options.

  • DIRECTION : Decide what direction you want to go with your image, based on your own personality and appearances you are generally comfortable with; follow it as a general theme which will be the basis of things to follow.
  • CHARACTERISTICS:  Blend your bridal image theme with your own personal body type being taken into account.  You may have a reason for going with a particular style, to soften broad shoulders for example, or to enhance a small waist.  You may find that you need to compromise to build your own individual expression.
  • TROUBLESHOOTING:  Remember that everything has to blend, from hair to shoes.  Look in magazines and online to get general ideas.  Experiment beforehand, what works in your minds eye can look very different in reality.
  • COLOUR:   Pay close attention to colour, decide if you are going to match or contrast.  An ice white outfit with sudden cream shoes does neither.  Once you have decided, the outfit has to flow and echo in the same direction.
  • ATTENDANTS:  Coordinate your style with your party; formal bridesmaids for a beach wedding won’t work or vice-versa.  Additionally, watch their style within the theme.  A shorter bridesmaid’s gown, regardless of how beautiful, fails to impact for a full formal evening wedding, yet works for a semi-formal morning ceremony.
  • BOUQUET:  Your bouquet has a form and statement too, depending on the size and arrangement, saying very different things.  For example, a full voluminous bouquet with a downward cascade is much softer and more formal than the compact bunch of posies which are very edgy and carefree.  Both are beautiful but have different uses depending on what overall look you are trying to achieve.
