FRIENDLY ADVICE ABOUT GENERAL CLOTHING

It is understood and appreciated that your choice of clothing is very much an individual thing, an expression of your style and personality. However there are issues concerning clothing when visiting or living in certain countries, it is important that you familiarise yourself with them beforehand to ensure that the only events are pleasant ones.

WHAT NOT TO WEAR IN BARBADOS

In Barbados the wearing of camouflage clothing is not permitted unless you are a registered member of the armed forces. This is to ensure your safety and allow our resident and visiting, brave military to carry out their duties effectively for the benefit of all.

Please note that a choice of colours in camouflage is not created for the sake of fashion, other countries use different variations of camouflage pattern and colour depending on their environment or special missions, so any tone on this theme is nevertheless considered military wear. As a result, it is not advisable to try to still use it by choosing another colour alternative to army green, including “Desert Style”, for any form of clothing as well as head bandanas or even a kerchief hanging out of your pocket. Camouflage clothing is not street wear, fashion wear or fun wear in Barbados.

The law of Barbados clearly explains that you will be guilty of an offence to:

Wear without permission in a public environment, any clothing which has the distinctive look or markings of this regimental type uniform.
Wearing without permission any part, on any type of clothing or accessory, camouflage material or anything which looks similar.

It is also not acceptable to go into stores and restaurants with no shoes on or bareback / scantily clad.

WHAT TO WEAR IN BARBADOS

With that note in mind you can still express your individuality while on the island and enjoy neutral clothing of your own choosing.

While we advise you to dress yourself appropriately for your activity, beach, church, shopping etc, you are pretty much at will to be yourself.

There are many other patterns and styles which you can enjoy wearing and you are free to explore and express these looks, to flatter your complexion and keep cool in the tropical heat.
