Traval legal & Other info
As a guide only, the following information may be of assistance.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Some countries have restrictions when it comes to marriage, so you need to comply with the legal requirements of the country where you want to have your overseas wedding.  Most countries have rules about residency -- the time you need to be there for -- before you can get married.  It is advisable that you check the detailed information for your destination wedding.

If you are using a professional wedding planner they will arrange everything for you, however you should still check all of the legal requirements. If you are arranging everything yourself you will need to get accurate advice from the consulate or embassy of the country concerned.
There are some countries which will require you to have some religious affiliation before you can get married.

GENERAL LEGAL REQUIREMENTS
Some countries may require you to present evidence that you are single and that you are eligible to get married under the laws of your own country before you will be permitted to get married in that country.
Remember that the legal validity of your marriage is governed by the laws of the country in which you are marrying and not by the laws of the country in which you are resident.
You may still be bound by the laws of your country of residence. For example, if you are under 18 and have not obtained parental consent to marry, your marriage may not be recognized under the laws of your country of residence.
You will probably need to send copies of the following before you travel and take the originals with you to be produced before your ceremony:
  • valid 10-year passports
  • birth certificates
  • affidavit/statutory declarations confirming single status
  • Decree Absolute (if you are divorced)
  • previous spouse's death certificate (if you are widowed)
  • parental consent if you are under 18 (21 in some countries

PASSPORTS & VISAS
You should ensure that you have a valid 10-year passport and, alternately, your passport should be valid for at least six months after the date of your return to your country of residence.
Usually when the country in which you are planning to marry requires a visa, you are responsible for obtaining this yourself. The method of obtaining a visa, the cost and time necessary to process the application vary from country to country therefore it is important that you contact their embassy as soon as you decide on a destination for the most up-to-date information.

Anyone getting married abroad should contact their local embassy or consulate in the country where the wedding is taking place, for up-to-date information, to ensure that the ceremony is valid in their country of residence.  To be completely sure that your marriage will be both legally recognized in your country of residence and in the country in which you choose to get married you should also check the legal requirements with the embassy or consulate for the country you are marrying in.
