CHOOSING GOWNS FOR HOT TEMPERATURES
When it comes to deciding on the perfect gown to wear for a destination wedding, taking place in a hot, tropical climate like Barbados, it is important to remember that the dress is meant to blend with your environment, comfort and you, in addition to reflecting your style.
LOCATION
While looks and impression are important, your destination gown's function should not be totally for show. Remember that you are going to be wearing it for a fair amount of time, in unfamiliar surroundings and need to look cool and unflustered during the occasion. Take carefully into account the location of your wedding and select suitable fabrics which will enhance your chosen style but at the same time be compatible for use in higher temperatures than you may be normally used to.
TIME OF DAY
Consider what part of the day your wedding will take place; a morning wedding is completely different to an evening wedding when the midday sun will have already gone down.
GOWN MATERIALS AND FIT

Your main concern is allowing your body to breathe comfortably. Your dress should be able to be worn easily and effortlessly.
However, you don’t have to sacrifice a full formal look if that is your dream; you can choose from a variety of fabrics which are natural and light or suitable mixes:

  • Silk Organza
  • Cotton with natural silk
  • Soft cotton
  • Lustre finish linens
  • Chiffon over cotton
  • A medium weight Duchess Satin
  • Slinky Charmeuse which drapes easily
  • Crepe de Chine etc

Be mindful when fitting your gown; a tight, very close garment is not advisable in hot climates.
Aim for a fit which is snugly attractive but still allows airflow.
FABRIC SUITABILITY
The above selected fabrics would work equally well for a less formal style or cultural dress.
Heavy weighted fabrics will be uncomfortable in tropical environments. If you are having a beach wedding, a full tulle gown will not be advisable instead opt for soft, fluid styles for comfort and looks of which silks are a cool, excellent choice.

Above all have fun and enjoy the extra creativity you can have with your dress due to your destination wedding.
