Choosing Suitable Shoes

When you choose to hold a destination wedding in a tropical location, you might consider a beach setting or outdoors in a garden or historic venue.  In this situation you would need to wear shoes that function in your environment.

Often the elegant satin spike heels won’t work, frequently sinking into sand or soft ground.  Footwear for this kind of destination is often lower with a sturdier heel, flats or sometimes even bare foot in the case of a beach wedding.

CHOICE OF FOOTWEAR
But don't be overly concerned, this does not mean that you cannot wear attractive footwear for your special day.  In fact the possibilities are even more open to you, to be extremely adventurous.

Choose from:

  • Sophisticated wedges
  • Low cut ballerina style flat shoes with or without beading
  • Woven styles
  • Elegant pointed toes with ½ to 2 inch heels
  • Silk flip-flops which can be dyed
  • Comfortable but beautiful mules and slides
  • Strappy, open toed styles
  • Patent Leather in white cream or other
  • And much more

Avoid very fine mesh styles for the beach, which could trap fine grains of sand and chafe your feet.

EXPRESS YOUR STYLE
Comfortable and lower does not have to mean uninspiring, have fun with colour due to a warmer climate, flashes of gold or silver, sequins, rhinestones and also remember that these kind of shoes can be worn after the wedding and beyond.
BAREFOOT
For the ultimate symbol of a beach wedding, go barefoot for the supreme romantic castaway experience.  Barbados sand is soft, very fine and comfortable underfoot.  Enjoy having your toes in the sand.
BAJAN TIP

In the early months of the year the ground in Barbados is very hard and firm underfoot; allowing you to wear the shoes of your choice for garden weddings, including high heels.
