BRIDAL HAIR PROTECTION
There is nothing more glorious than a beautiful sunny day for your wedding, enhancing atmosphere, photographs and the shine in your hair. However there are considerations to address to ensure the perfect look for your big day. The sun, wind, sea salt and chlorine all have an altering effect on your tresses which can leave it in bad condition ... Prepare yourself in advance.
BEFORE THE ONSET
Prior to leaving for your destination a few points of preparation will put you in a good position to easily manage hair travel challenges:

  • Arrange to have a good professional trim, hair will be healthier and comb easier with no snagging ends, look better and swing naturally.
  • Apply a deep conditioning hydrating hair mask for strength, resilience (seals the cuticle) and to repair damaged areas.
  • If hair is colour treated apply the service before you leave to allow your hair to settle and balance. Colour treated hair is more fragile due to the chemical process.

SEA SALT & CHLORINE

One of the main and most enjoyable aspects of a tropical destination is to enjoy the waters whether it be the natural splash of the beautiful emerald sea or the convenience of a hotel pool. Either way, neither are friendly to your hair and you need to be aware and prepared:

  • Sea salt can make hair dry, rough and unmanageable; be sure to wash your hair after EVERY dip with a suitable moisturising shampoo and condition paying particular attention to the ends. Follow with a light application of serum to the ends.
  • Apply a film of conditioner to dampened hair from roots to tip before you enter the water for added protection.
  • As you will know from pools back home, chlorine has a very unpredictable effect on hair it can make it dry, brittle, fragile, fades colour and even turn colour treated hair a variety of tones including a shade of green on blonde or light tones. Combat this by shampooing immediately afterwards with a rich cream shampoo, specially formulated for cleansing residue from hair and follow with a conditioner combing through to the ends before rinsing.

HUMIDITY
Humidity in the atmosphere is your big challenge; you will find that the general texture of your hair has changed due to a higher temperature than accustomed.

It may become dry and/or prone to frizz or appear limp and flat. The sun may fade your colour if your hair is treated.

Do not be overly alarmed, this is perfectly normal as you acclimatise and a few adjustments will alleviate or prevent these symptoms.

The following tips will go a long way in your quest for perfect tropical hair:
  • Wear a wide brimmed hat during the intense midday sun.
  • Wear long hair braided or tied back with pretty scarves and accessories to retain moisture
  • Hair of all lengths can be protected with gels, serums and spritzers with special UV inhibitors.
  • Cleanse with moisture enriched shampoos. Many anti frizz and humidity resistant varieties are available in brands which we all know and love to use.
  • Use colour enhancing shampoos to enrich your natural tones.
  • Always condition afterwards.
